Join Us for the 2022 Polar Bear Plunge!
We are excited to announce that Becka Makes Buttons will be Plunging for the 2022 Polar Bear Plunge on February 5 at the Illahe Hills Country Club in Salem, sponsored by Special Olympics Oregon! We’re building a DINO-Myte team to do some crazy plunging for the cause. Are you ready to join in the fun?
The folks at Special Olympics Oregon bring year-round sports training and competition to over 12,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities. They have historically paired Oregon’s beloved winter tradition of Plunging into frigid waters with raising money and awareness for the Special Olympics Oregon team! After an amazing year of Virtual Polar Plunges across the state, they are very excited to Plunge in-person once again in 2022.

Our individual dinos have combined digital forces to create our own awesome fundraising team for this event!
Together we will ROAR and raise MOAR money for Special Olympics Oregon than we ever could alone! We’re getting dressed up in inflatable dinosaur costumes and make a Brontosaurus-sized splash!
Want to help? Come join the pack and stomp with us! If you feel like keeping your tushy dry, you can donate a few extra bucks and leave it at that too! Click here to support us now!
Why the Polar Bear Plunge though, Becka?
“I have many handicap-able friends and I love supporting the Special Olympics because to me, it casts a positive spotlight and uplifts people who are used to being ignored by society.
Over the years that I have been doing my creation station at public events, I have had many parents and caregivers thank me for treating their loved ones like people after they had made buttons with me. Some of the parents were in tears as they shared horror stories about the way they are used to being treated when out in public and attending events. I find it really heartbreaking.
I believe that everyone is valid, regardless of their ability, so supporting a cause that exists to celebrate the triumphs and accomplishments and show how amazing and capable these humans really are just feels like the right thing to do.
So I joined the committee, donated some buttons, and I’m facing the cold (my least favorite element) to boldly support this RAD event! I hope you’ll join me!”
